The PRS 509 is built around versatility, using a five-coil pickup platform to deliver nine distinct tones from a single instrument. The outside four coils are grouped as humbuckers, while the middle position uses a dedicated single coil. A 5-way blade switch and two mini-toggle switches allow the treble and bass pickups to move independently between humbucker and single-coil operation, covering everything from full humbucking sounds to clear single-coil and blended tones.
The 509 pairs a maple top with a mahogany back and mahogany Pattern Regular neck, along with a rosewood fingerboard and PRS bird inlays. Its slightly longer 25.25" scale length adds upper harmonic sparkle, while the PRS Patented Tremolo, Gen III and Phase III locking tuners provide the hardware foundation.
