He soon began playing at jazz festivals and local venues, such as Baker’s Keyboard Lounge and Bert’s Marketplace with the likes of Marcus Belgrave, Larry Smith, James Carter, Gerald Cleaver and many more. Daniel Byington is a multi-instrumentalist and composer who began his musical journey as a composer and performer in nationally touring bands (metal, progressive rock, electronic/idm). Daniel is an active performer and composer, and frequently performs with his band or as a soloist in the realm of classical music. Daniel holds degrees in Guitar Performance and Music Education from Oakland University, and was the first guitarist to receive a talent based scholarship through their school of music. Daniel has played for more than twenty years and has spent over fifteen years teaching private lessons. Because of his expertise as a composer and arranger, Daniel creates customized curriculum and arrangements that suit the individual musicianship and goals of a particular student.

Teaching Philosophy: I believe in a holistic and student-centered approach to education. In the context of the musical classroom, that assumes that music as an art form is a marriage of the technical abilities needed to understand and perform, as well as the various historical, cultural, and emotional dimensions of a given piece of music.
