Three New Looks for a Taylor Favorite
The Taylor GS Mini has been a favorite for a long time, and it’s pretty easy to understand why. It packs a surprising amount of guitar into a compact, comfortable package. It’s small enough to take just about anywhere, but still has the volume and projection to feel like a proper acoustic.
Taylor has added three fresh looks to the GS Mini lineup, and they’ve all landed at Detroit Guitar.
The new GS Mini-e Special Editions come in Vintage Teal Burst, Floral Blue and Floral Green, with each one bringing its own personality to the familiar GS Mini formula.
GS Mini-e Special Edition Vintage Teal Burst
The Taylor GS Mini-e Special Edition Vintage Teal Burst is probably the most traditional of the three — although there’s nothing particularly traditional about a teal GS Mini.
The Vintage Teal Burst finish looks killer against the cream and black pickguard and gives the guitar plenty of personality without getting too wild.
Underneath the finish is a solid torrefied spruce top paired with layered Indian rosewood back and sides. The torrefaction process helps give the spruce some of the warm, played-in character associated with an older top, while the GS Mini’s 23-1/2" scale keeps everything comfortable and easy to play.
GS Mini-e Special Edition Floral Blue
Then there’s the Taylor GS Mini-e Special Edition Floral Blue.
This one definitely isn’t trying to blend in.
Taylor covers the top in custom psychedelic floral artwork against a sky-blue background, and the result is unlike just about any GS Mini we’ve had through the shop. It’s bright, colorful and just plain fun.
The Floral Blue pairs its solid torrefied spruce top with layered sapele back and sides, along with a neo-tropical mahogany neck and West African Crelicam ebony fingerboard. Chrome hardware and simple faux pearl dot inlays keep the rest of the guitar clean and let the artwork do the talking.
GS Mini-e Special Edition Floral Green
The Taylor GS Mini-e Special Edition Floral Green takes the same concept and heads in a completely different direction.
White, yellow and orange flowers stretch across a green background, giving this one a cool retro feel. It’s the kind of guitar you notice from across the room, which isn’t something you can say about every acoustic.
Like the Floral Blue, it features a solid torrefied spruce top with layered sapele back and sides, a neo-tropical mahogany neck and West African Crelicam ebony fingerboard.
Small Guitar. Plenty of Personality.
The cool finishes are obviously what grab your attention first, but underneath all of that, these are still GS Minis where it counts.
All three feature Taylor’s comfortable 23-1/2" scale length and 1-11/16" nut width, along with ES-B electronics for plugging in and a built-in digital chromatic tuner. Each guitar also includes a Taylor structured gig bag, so they’re ready to grab and take along pretty much anywhere.
And that’s really what we like about these.
Taylor didn’t mess with the formula. They took a guitar that already works and gave players three very different ways to make it their own.
Vintage Teal Burst if you want something a little more classic. Floral Blue if you want maximum color. Floral Green if the full-on retro look is more your speed.
All three Taylor GS Mini-e Special Editions are available now at Detroit Guitar. Check them out online, or stop into the shop and see them in person.
