PRS x Defender: The New Silver Sky Defender Color Collection

PRS and John Mayer have taken the Silver Sky somewhere new with the Defender Color Collection, a limited-edition collaboration inspired by one of Mayer’s other longtime interests: the Land Rover Defender.

The collection brings eight Defender-inspired colors to the Silver Sky family, split between four USA-made Silver Sky models and four SE Silver Sky models. The idea started with Mayer’s own Arles Blue Defender, which he has owned for nearly two decades, and grew into a collection pulling colors from both Defender’s heritage and its current lineup.

Silver Sky Defender Limited Edition

The USA-made Silver Sky Defender is available in four classic Defender colors: Arles Blue, Willow Green, Portofino Red and Sandglow Yellow.

These aren't simply new Silver Sky finishes. Each guitar gets a matching painted headstock, white pickguard and controls, a unique neck plate identifying the color and its place in the run, and a PRS ATA molded case with a custom Defender badge.

Most importantly, these are genuinely limited. PRS is producing only 500 guitars in each color worldwide — 2,000 total.

Detroit Guitar received preorder allocations of two Arles Blue and two Willow Green, and all four have already sold. We still have Portofino Red and Sandglow Yellow available for preorder.

Both are expected to begin shipping in November 2026.

Underneath the Defender treatment is the familiar USA Silver Sky developed by PRS and John Mayer, with an alder body, 25.5" scale, 7.25" radius rosewood fingerboard and a trio of 635JM pickups.

SE Silver Sky Defender Limited Edition

PRS didn't stop with the USA Silver Sky. The SE Silver Sky gets its own Defender collection using four contemporary Defender colors: Petra Copper, Sedona Red, Carpathian Grey and Woolstone Green.

The SE collection takes a slightly different visual direction, pairing the Defender finishes with black pickguards and controls. Each also receives a special Defender backplate identifying its color and comes with an exclusive gig bag featuring Defender branding.

Unlike the USA versions, PRS isn't limiting the SE models to a specific production quantity. Instead, they'll be available for a limited ordering window through mid-2027.

A Different Kind of Silver Sky Limited Edition

Special colors have always been a big part of the Silver Sky story, but the Defender collection goes a little further. Instead of simply introducing another group of finishes, PRS and Mayer have taken colors from outside the guitar world and carried the Defender theme through the headstocks, plastics, backplates and cases.

With only 500 examples of each USA color worldwide — and our Arles Blue and Willow Green allocations already spoken for — the initial response to this collection has been strong.
