Fire vs. Ice: Two Ultra-Limited Powers Electric A-Types You Need to See

Some guitars don’t need an explanation—they just stop you in your tracks.
These are two of them.

These two Powers Electric A-Type Select Maple models aren’t just visually striking—they’re part of a highly limited run built from a small batch of hand-selected, ultra-figured birdseye maple tops, split into two distinct directions: Glacier Burst and Lava Burst. Just 10 of each exist worldwide, making this one of the most focused and intentional releases we’ve seen from Powers Electric.

And once you get past the tops, the platform underneath is just as compelling.

What Makes the A-Type Different

Before getting into the finishes, it’s worth understanding why the A-Type stands out in the first place.

The design centers around a trussed hollowbody construction—a lightweight, resonant build that still stays controlled at volume. It gives you a more open, responsive feel than a solidbody, without the usual tradeoffs.

The neck features an asymmetrical radius, which isn’t a gimmick—it actually tracks the way your hand moves across the fretboard. Chords feel natural down low, and lead work up top doesn’t fight you.

Then there’s the CamTail tremolo system, which is one of the more mechanically interesting designs out there. It adds movement and expression without the tuning instability people expect from traditional systems.

The result is a platform that feels immediate, dynamic, and highly responsive to the player.

Glacier Burst — Cool, Detailed, Eye-Catching

Glacier Burst leans into a cooler, more controlled visual look. The birdseye figuring comes through with a lot of clarity, giving the top a sharp, defined appearance without feeling overdone.

It’s clean, striking, and lets the figuring do the talking.

Lava Burst — Warm, Bold, Full of Movement

Lava Burst takes the same material and pushes it in a completely different visual direction. There’s more warmth, more depth, and more movement across the top.

It feels heavier visually—more aggressive, more forward—without losing the detail in the figuring.

Why This Drop Matters

This release isn’t about adding another option to the lineup.

It’s about a specific set of materials, chosen at a high level, and split into two finishes that highlight completely different visual personalities.

With only 10 of each in existence, this is one of those moments where the details actually line up:

  • Limited for a real reason
  • Distinct, not redundant
  • Built on a platform that already stands apart

If you’ve been paying attention to what Powers Electric has been doing, this is a pretty clear snapshot of why people are getting into these guitars.
