Detroit Guitar Is Now a Powers Electric Dealer
Next-Gen Innovation. SoCal Soul. Crafted for Players Who Want More.
We’re excited to announce something brand new and truly inspiring: Detroit Guitar is now an official Powers Electric dealer!
Founded by master builder and Taylor Guitars President Andy Powers, Powers Electric is a bold leap into the world of boutique electric guitars—combining handcrafted excellence with groundbreaking design. Andy’s deep roots in Southern California culture—surfboards, skateboards, hot rods—come to life in every curve and contour of the Powers Electric A-Type, the brand’s debut model.
This is not your average offset.
The A-Type features a lightweight hollow body with urban ash back and solid maple top, internally braced with violin-style soundposts that increase resonance while keeping feedback in check. A stress-relieved mahogany neck with Honduran rosewood fretboard is joined to the body using an innovative dovetail joint—horizontal and paper-tight for optimal sustain and energy transfer. Even the fretboard is reimagined with a split-radius design for enhanced comfort and ergonomics.
Then there’s the tone.
Each A-Type comes equipped with either PF42 (Partial Faraday) or FF42 (Full Faraday) pickups—custom-built designs housed in aluminum casings and crafted with modern magnetic architecture. Available in “full Faraday” (FF42) and “partial Faraday” (PF42) editions, both pickup options are a new design that blends modern magnetic structure with an old inspiration, allowing the strings to vibrate more naturally and freely. The result is unprecedented fidelity and colorful warmth—tonal qualities that typically work against each other, but here, beautifully complement one another.
The FF42 emphasizes warmth and clarity, delivering a rich, full response that leans closer to a humbucker, while the PF42 offers a firmer, brighter tone with more single-coil snap and attack. And thanks to their Faraday-cage-inspired enclosures, both pickups reduce interference and noise—delivering pure, articulate tone whether clean or overdriven.
And let’s not forget the CamTail Tremolo System—a camshaft-inspired vibrato that keeps chords in tune while bending pitch across all six strings evenly. It’s pitch modulation with stability, style, and grace.
Every Powers Electric guitar is handcrafted in California in limited numbers. The fit and finish are exceptional. The sound is alive. The feel is unmistakably premium. And now, you can get yours right here at Detroit Guitar.
